Background
Chris has spent 30 years, since the age of 7, in the field, hunting whitetail deer, Eastern wild turkey, dove, duck, quail, pheasant, chukar, woodcock, and ruffed grouse. His passion is split between upland bird and waterfowl hunting. He has hunted upland game birds in South Dakota, up and down the east coast – from Pennsylvania to southern Georgia, and as far west as Texas, and has hunted ducks and geese in Arkansas, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, and West Virginia. He enjoys guiding a hunt and working the dogs more than he does shooting the birds. He enjoys watching a Brittany on point just as much as a lab bringing a drake mallard back through the decoys.
He has trained his own personal dogs for years, and began working as a full-time trainer when he retired from the Army in 2012. He has also guided waterfowl, pheasant, chukar, and quail hunts.
Why I Use SportDOG Brand
I've used SportDOG Brand products for nine years because of their light weight, ease of operation, durability, and reliability. I particularly enjoy the compatibility between the different systems. SportDOG has always stood by their products, and any minor issue I’ve encountered has always been handled with timely and excellent customer support.
Favorite Products
My favorite SportDOG Brand product is the UplandHunter 1875 system with the beeper. It makes keeping track of the dogs while hunting in thick or tall cover much easier. I can also use it with my older SD-1825 collars. In late 2013, while hunting woodcock on Johnson Island in the Chattahoochee River, my lanyard with my 1875 remote was pulled overboard and sank in about 8 feet of muddy water. With nothing to retrieve it with, I marked the spot where it went down and decided to come back for it. Eight days later, while out fishing, I was able to snag it off the bottom and retrieve it. Not only did it still work like new, but also still had about 75% charge left. I'm still using it to this day!
